Job Description

Utility Partners of America (UPA), a leading National Utility Contractor is seeking qualified Class C Lineman in the upstate of South Carolina. The Class C Lineman is a semi-skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.

Pay Rate & Benefits

  • Storm/Outage Pay - When a crew leaves their home base to go work a storm outage.
  • 5 x hourly pay rate for all hours worked (Monday – Friday)
  • 2 x hourly pay rate for all hours worked ( Saturday and Sunday)

Essential Functions

  • Understands the importance of working safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
  • Must have knowledge of stringing overhead wire.
  • Must be capable of setting poles and anchors.
  • Must be able to install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot in primary and secondary systems.
  • Must be capable of replacing fuses in transformers and clears faulted circuits and systems.
  • Will work frequently with energized high voltage systems requiring both skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Will maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Must be able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Must be able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Must be familiar with induced voltage.
  • Must have knowledge of grounding procedures.
  • Must understand how to use a load buster tool.
  • Must be capable of installing and hooking up a single-phase transformer.
  • Must be capable of safely setting a pole.
  • Must understand equipment set up and grounding.
  • Must have the ability to work at high and/or confined spaces.
  • Must be capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover-up.
  • Must be capable of checking voltage on transformers.
  • Must be capable of tying in a primary conductor.
  • Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
  • Must understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Must understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
  • Must be able to effectively conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing.
  • Must be able to safely perform a reconductoring job.
  • Must be willing to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines.
  • Must be capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Does all other related work as required to complete the job.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a clean criminal background.
  • Must have clean (MVR) driving record.
  • Must pass a 5-panel drug test.
  • 5-year minimum experience in recent field.
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License Permit within 60 days of employment, a Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Must be able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Must be able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
