Rincon Consultants is seeking an Architectural Historian Project Mana ger to join our Southern California team of professionals working on a variety of projects including Utilities, Water, Renewable Energy, Transportation, and Infrastructure. Under the direction of a Cultural Resources Principal, you will be responsible for managing cultural resources projects and overseeing all phases of work. Technical duties include conducting historic resources surveys and archival research, historic resource evaluations, assisting in the development of historic context statements and preparing historic resources technical reports. Project management duties include successfully executing tasks and contracts in the cultural resources service line, oversight and preparation of work products, directing and participating in fieldwork, people management, and client engagement and retention.

While this role may offer flexible work arrangements that can include a mix of in-office and remote work, our changing business needs will ultimately determine our level of remote-work flexibility. Additionally, to promote in-person collaboration and client teaming, we prioritize hiring those who reside within 50 miles of a Rincon Southern California office which currently includes: Carlsbad, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Riverside and San Diego.
This is a minimum 40 hour per week position and some 40+ weeks may be necessary based on project needs.

What You Get To Do:

  • Facilitate successful project completion of multiple projects with varied regulatory requirements including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and local historic preservation ordinances.
  • Conduct and lead field surveys and archival research
  • Review and prepare California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms
  • Prepare technical reports and historic evaluations for compliance with NEPA, Section 106 and CEQA
  • Develop and implement historic mitigation, including Historic American Building Survey, Historic American Engineering Survey and Historic American Landscape Survey documentation
  • Conduct reviews of projects for Conformance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Manage projects, client expectations, schedules, and budgets
  • Maintain QA/QC of various cultural resource work products that support CEQA and NEPA compliance for various agencies
  • Oversee and complete work products and fieldworkto identify and assess impacts to built environment resources
  • Coordinate and lead project meetings
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, stakeholder communities
  • Attend commission meetings to address impacts to historical resources
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams for successful project execution including planners and archaeologists
  • Develop project proposals, including costs and schedules
  • Participate in business planning and development
  • Participate in Rincons mentorship program including providing mentorship of junior staff and engaging in peer-to-peer mentorship and engagement with senior mentors
  • Other duties as assigned

This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following:

  • Meets or exceeds the qualifications detailed in 36 CFR part 61, for Architectural History
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive and successful environmental consulting experience in the above-mentioned technical and project management areas
  • A thorough understanding of CEQA and NEPA as they relate to cultural resources and related fields, and Section 106 of the NHPA
  • Strong technical writing and problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrated leadership ability, effective communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projectsand staff
  • Experience working as part of a team of cultural resources professionals
  • Prior experience working in California and knowledge of the regional historic contexts and development

The base salary range for this full-time position is $80,000 $120,000, plus a generous benefits program. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidates job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
