**Job Summary**

Operates and maintains a City of Bryan pretreatment plant in accordance with regulatory authority outlined in the sites Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permit.

**Essential Job Functions**

Performs plant operations in accordance with regulatory authority.

Responsible for meeting compliance with the sites TCEQ permit.

Oversees offloading of transported waste for site acceptance and processing.

Monitors plant operations, tank volumes, and site conditions; makes recommendations and implements regulatory compliance actions as required.

Promotes plant hygiene and appearance by routine washing of equipment and waste processing surfaces.

Operates various pumps, motors, and other related equipment.

Loads processed solids into containment boxes using a backhoe or other heavy machinery.

Tracks customer activity and waste disposal using a computerized database.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Responds regularly and promptly to work.

**Minimum Qualifications**

High School Diploma/GED.

At least one (1) year of work experience performing semi-skilled and/or skilled manual labor that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the job.

Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification and training may also be considered.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to:**

Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Perform work independently based upon broad instructions and general supervision.

Learn the principles, procedures, and techniques of a wastewater treatment plant, including the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used during the course of work.

Safely and efficiently operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and materials used in performing essential functions.

Initiate positive and appropriate corrective action in the event of a sudden accident or equipment failure.

Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.

Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.

Use a personal computer and related software applications as needed.

Maintain accurate and complete logs, records, and files.

Take the initiative to learn individual job tasks and continue to broaden knowledge levels by willingly accepting new responsibilities and attending training to advance skills.

Handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize work assignments, and meet established deadlines.

Comply with City and departmental administrative directives, policies, and procedures.

Remain constantly alert and aware of any workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.

Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the area of responsibility.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.

**Licenses, Certifications and Special Requirements**

Texas Class C drivers license with a good driving record as measured by the Citys evaluation system.

Must be able to obtain a TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operators License and a TCEQ Class B Municipal Solid Waste Operators License within the timeframe set by the department.

Must successfully pass an annual pulmonary function test and respirator f t test to determine the ability to function while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Must submit to a TB test during employment as required. (Note: An initial TB test will be required during the post-offer physical examination. A negative test result must be received in order to be considered for employment.)

**Physical Demands**

Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift or move objects up to 100 pounds.

**Working Conditions**

Work is performed in a plant environment with exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions, inclement weather, temperature extremes, heights, overhead hazards, noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts and equipment, rough/uneven/slippery surfaces, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, toxic/caustic chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, dirt, pollen and other airborne pollutants.

**Equipment**

Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.

Equipment may include but is not limited to: phone, computer, lab equipment, belt press, hand and power tools, pumps, motors, gauges, valves, ladders, forklifts, and City vehicles such as dump trucks and other commercial vehicles.
