The Lead Utility Worker leads and works with a crew involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the Districts infrastructure including canals, pipelines, pumping plants, roads, buildings and other facilities. The main responsibilities of this position include evaluating and coordinating installation, maintenance, and repair tasks for water and distribution systems, and ensuring the proper functioning of various equipment and facilities. The Lead Utility Worker is involved in general maintenance tasks like weed abatement, carpentry, painting, cement work, sandblasting, and pipe installation or repair. This position may be required to work after-hours on emergency repairs and required to participate in a scheduled after-hours stand-by duty rotation.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in infrastructure maintenance and construction, advanced technical skills, and experience leading, training, and inspiring a crew. They should be knowledgeable in water and power operations, proficient in operating various tools and equipment, and skilled in general maintenance tasks. Safety-conscious and flexible, they should be capable of handling emergency repairs and participating in weekend duty rotations while prioritizing crew safety.

Salary Range: 148-162 ($41.06 - $59.47 per hour)
Assigned salary range is based on qualifying licenses and certifications held.

Qualifying Licenses and Certifications:

· California State Water Resources Control Board Grade Level D-3

· California State Water Resources Control Board Grade Level D-4

· California State Water Resources Control Board Grade Level T-2

· Boom Truck Certification

· JPIA Operations Certification Course Completion

Qualifications

Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Experience and Education

  • Two (2) years of current experience in performing skilled work in the maintenance of potable and non-potable water and distribution systems.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Class B California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.
  • Possession and maintenance of a Distribution Level D2 certificate by the California State Water Resources Control Board is required upon appointment.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a Distribution Level D3 certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within two years of appointment. Failure to obtain certification may be grounds for termination.
