JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is in search of a skilled and experienced Power Plant Operator I, for their Thermal Energy Plant team. This position works under close supervision to perform semi-skilled level operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery in central plant environment. The ideal candidate has two (2) plus years experience working as a Power Plant Operator in a Thermal Energy Plant, specifically in boiler operations, steam systems, chiller operations, HVAC and refrigeration, cooling tower and pump operations, water treatment, and/or building automation systems. Prefer completion of a certified operator program and/or power plant technology degree. Experience in electrical, plumbing, controls, and welding.
Work Location: Plant Operations, Dallas Campus
Shift Requirements: Requires flexibility to work nights/days/weekends and holidays. Power Plant Operators can be on-call during emergencies, or to cover another shift, inclement weather, and the like. The shift coverage could be for day or night.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience
2 years of semi-skilled level experience in operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, or industrial equipment.
May consider additional related education in lieu of experience (each year completed from a related plant operator higher education training program may be substituted for a year of required experience; this includes related vocational or trade school).
Preferred

Completion of certified operator program and experience in university physical plant environment.

JOB DUTIES
- Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts power plant and/or chilling station equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
- Monitors equipment and maintains records of equipment operational status.
- Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas.
- Operates control computer systems.
- Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment for proper operation.
- Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
- Attends meetings and training courses.
- Trains new personnel as required.
- May perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to operation of mechanical or electrical systems.
- May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
