Position Title: Operations Manager – Directional Drilling & Underground Utilities Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Owner

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Operations Manager to lead field operations across directional drilling, trenchless, plowing, and trenching activities. This role is responsible for overseeing multiple field crews performing installation of Fiber Optic, Telephone, Cable TV, and High Voltage URD (Underground Residential Distribution) Terminations .

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of experience in underground utility construction—particularly boring and plowing for underground power and telecom infrastructure . You must be comfortable with both strategic oversight and “boots on the ground” leadership, ensuring safety, productivity, and quality across job sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of multiple underground utility crews

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality installations of fiber, telecom, CATV, and high-voltage URD terminations

  • Manage all aspects of directional drilling, trenchless technology, plowing, and trenching operations

  • Directly supervise crew leads and field staff to maintain schedule and jobsite standards

  • Interface with clients, inspectors, and utility companies to ensure compliance and communication

  • Track and report job progress, labor, and material usage to ownership

  • Support estimating, planning, and job costing as needed

  • Enforce safety protocols and maintain regulatory compliance across all operations

  • Participate in hiring, training, and development of field personnel



Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in underground utility construction , specifically boring, plowing, and trenchless operations

  • Proven experience installing fiber optic, telephone, cable, and underground high-voltage terminations

  • Strong working knowledge of underground power distribution and telecom installation standards

  • Effective leadership, scheduling, and crew management skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, and construction drawings

  • Must be highly organized, dependable, and safety-oriented



Work Environment:

  • Field-based with daily job site visits required

  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments

  • Occasional after-hours or weekend work as project demands require
