Water Plant Operator Trainee

The purpose of this job is to operate a water treatment plant in a training capacity.
This position works under close supervision according to set procedures. The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Learn the techniques of operation and maintenance of water treatment plant; Learn and assist in operation and adjustments of pumps, motors, valves, screens, and related mechanical equipment; Learn and assist in the inspection of pumps, motors, valves and related mechanical equipment; Learn and assist in the required laboratory analysis including but not limited to pH, temperatures, chlorine residual, and settleable solids; Perform minor plant maintenance, ground keeping and housekeeping duties as required in all areas of the facility; Learn and assist in the preparation and maintenance of activity records and reports; Perform increasingly responsible duties in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant; Performs related tasks as required; Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.
Ability to obtain a Class C Water Treatment Plant Operators Certificate.
Must possess and maintain an appropriate, valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
