Geoscientific Analyst

  • Ideon
  • Richmond, British Columbia
  • Full Time

Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earths surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL Subsurface Intelligence Platform, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.

By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the worlds transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy improving peoples lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

We are a dynamic tech scale-up of 70 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.

  • Refactor existing scientific code into modular, maintainable, and reusable components

Geoscience Data Processing

  • Work with large geoscience datasets including muon tomography, geophysical survey data, geological models, and time-series datasets
  • Support the geoscience team in automating data processing, model generation, and visualization workflows
  • Improve computational efficiency of geoscience modelling workflows through parallelization, vectorization, and optimized algorithms
  • Implement reproducible workflows for data QC, feature extraction, and model preparation

AI & Advanced Analytics

  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and machine learning techniques into geoscience data workflows
  • Use modern AI coding tools and automation methods to accelerate development of scientific workflows
  • Explore opportunities for machine learning, statistical modelling, and pattern recognition in geoscience datasets
  • Develop tools to support automated model diagnostics, anomaly detection, and uncertainty analysis

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Serve as a bridge between geoscience, R&D, and software teams
  • Translate scientific workflow requirements into efficient and scalable computational solutions
  • Support integration of geoscience workflows into internal software platforms and applications
  • Help establish best practices for scientific computing, version control, and reproducible research

Priorities in the first few months will include:

Month 12

  • Learn Ideons data architecture, modelling workflows, and geoscience notebooks
  • Identify pipeline and inversion workflow optimization opportunities
  • Partner with geoscience teams to surface bottlenecks and workflow pain points

Month 24

  • Standardize data processing notebooks and modelling workflows
  • Implement improved data structures and reproducible pipelines
  • Start integrating AI-assisted coding and automation

Month 4+

  • Deliver workflows that materially reduce processing time and manual steps
  • Build reusable scientific libraries/frameworks for geoscience modelling
  • Advance next-generation data science capabilities within Ideons geoscience platform

Success in the role looks like:

  • Geoscience data workflows become faster, more reliable, and easier to reproduce
  • Python notebooks for modelling and inversion become well structured, modular, and maintainable
  • Data processing pipelines are automated and scalable
  • Geoscience teams spend less time on manual data preparation
