Commissioning Engineer

$110,000 to $130,000 + Bonus + Good Benefits

Field-Based Position

Site-based commissioning role focused on infrastructure projects, supporting field execution, system turnover, and client interface through pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup of municipal and industrial treatment systems. Embedded at active plant construction and retrofit sites with ownership of process system readiness, performance validation, and handover to operations.

Required Experience:

  1. US Citizenship or Permanent US Residency (Green Card)
  2. Minimum 3+ years of stable commissioning, startup, or operations support experience within water or wastewater treatment facilities (municipal or industrial required)
  3. Hands-on experience with treatment processes such as biological treatment (activated sludge), membrane systems (MBR), filtration, disinfection, and sludge processing preferred
  4. Working knowledge of AWWA standards, WEF practices, and OSHA requirements as applied to treatment plant construction and startup
  5. Demonstrated ability to execute field commissioning for process equipment, pumping systems, and plant-wide controls (PLC/SCADA)
  6. Experience coordinating subcontractors, OEMs, and owner representatives during multi-phase plant startup
  7. Ability to manage multiple systems concurrently in schedule-driven commissioning environments
  8. Strong proficiency reading P&IDs, control schematics, and process documentation
  9. Clear, direct communication in field and client-facing environments
  10. Proven track record of safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance during plant commissioning and startup

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary on-site liaison for owner/operators, EPC teams, subcontractors, and equipment vendors during commissioning of water and wastewater treatment systems
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across treatment processes including headworks, screening, grit removal, primary/secondary treatment, filtration, disinfection, sludge handling, and pumping systems
  • Lead system walkdowns, punch list development, and turnover package completion for process, mechanical, and electrical/instrumentation scopes
  • Execute commissioning plans for pumps, blowers, clarifiers, chemical feed systems, UV/chlorination systems, and SCADA/controls integration
  • Perform functional testing, loop checks, wet testing, and process start-up to validate system performance against design intent and regulatory requirements
  • Track and drive punch list items to closure to achieve mechanical completion, substantial completion, and final acceptance milestones
  • Coordinate system readiness across civil, mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes in a multi-discipline construction environment
  • Review and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, control narratives, and specifications specific to water/wastewater treatment processes
  • Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with applicable standards (AWWA, WEF, OSHA, project specifications) and quality requirements
  • Interface with engineering, controls integrators, and operations teams to troubleshoot process and equipment issues during startup
  • Maintain detailed commissioning logs, test documentation, and turnover records required for owner acceptance and regulatory compliance
