Substation Engineer III
Up to $52.96/hour, 12-month Contract
Remote
A leading energy and infrastructure organisation is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer (Level 3) to support a portfolio of substation projects, including FERC 1000 RFP efforts and early-stage development initiatives.
This role is suited to engineers with solid substation experience who are looking to step into broader project exposure, working across engineering coordination, design oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Support delivery of substation projects across development, RFP, and execution phases
Work alongside Project Managers to define engineering scope and technical requirements
Review and coordinate work from external Engineers of Record (EORs)
Ensure designs align with applicable standards (IEEE, NESC, ASCE, etc.)
Assist in developing scopes of work and supporting contractor selection processes
Coordinate inputs for site development including engineering data, permitting, and design updates
Support procurement activities for engineering services and long-lead equipment
Collaborate with estimating teams on scope assumptions and cost inputs
Participate in project meetings, providing updates on progress and risks
Contribute to RFP documentation and technical narratives
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred)
Typically 8-12 years of experience in substation engineering (flexible depending on capability)
Experience with high-voltage substation design and engineering support
Familiarity with EPC or utility-scale infrastructure projects
Working knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and related standards
Strong coordination and communication skills across engineering teams
HVDC experience is beneficial but not required
PMP or PE certification is a plus
