Basic Function

Finding Hydrocarbons by:

  • Identifying and maturing prospects and ensuring integration of geophysical and geologic data
  • Accurately representing uncertainties/risks leading to correct assignment of play or prospect risk
  • Providing geophysical support for Kosmos operated, and partner-operated wells

Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties

The Senior Geophysicist will serve as:

  • Member, Play and Prospect Generation Teams
  • Geophysicist providing both technical leadership and individual contribution
  • Data room contributor as needed

The Senior Geophysicist is responsible for:

  • Evaluating opportunities within captured acreage while identifying new opportunities through Lease Sale's or farm-ins across the play types
  • Delineating plays/prospects through regional analysis and assessing the uncertainties/risks, and maturing viable prospects forward to drill readiness
  • Providing high quality geophysical analysis to support prospect maturation, regional analysis and opportunity generation, through seismic processing and Quantitative Interpretation (QI) techniques
  • Being proficient in Kosmos' Petroleum System Analysis (PSA) workflow and refining and increasing the understanding of the petroleum system
  • Working collaboratively within integrated team including Geology, Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Commercial to deliver viable drilling opportunities to support future growth
  • Handle other projects, duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working in oil and gas industry
  • Minimum of 10 years of Gulf of America exploration experience with a successful track record of exploration
  • MS or PhD Degree in Geophysics or related Geophysical discipline required
  • Experience in seismic attribute and AVO analysis, inversion, and reservoir/fluid prediction as a tool for prospect discrimination and evaluation a plus
  • Experience with seismic processing projects and understanding current state of seismic imaging technology and application to prospect maturation
  • Strong petroleum systems analysis skills are essential
  • Expertise in play/prospect interpretation skills with the ability to integrate geophysical and geological data
  • Strong prospect/lead & play generation mapping and interpretation skills, utilizing all forms of subsurface, seismic, attribute analysis, and potential field data, with a clear ability to integrate
  • Current or previous deepwater clastic exploration experience
  • Experience with deepwater appraisal and development projects a plus, with expertise interpreting 4D seismic data, providing input to reservoir models and integration of abundant well and dynamic data.
  • Original, creative thinker with the ability to formulate and express a contrarian viewpoint
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Travel Requirements

Position requires approximately 10% travel, domestic and international

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier, etc.) stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
