Job Title: Project Geologist
Job Description
The Project Geologist evaluates geologic and hydrogeologic conditions, supports environmental monitoring programs, and ensures regulatory compliance for complex projects, with a strong focus on groundwater, leachate, stormwater, and landfill gas systems. This role combines fieldwork and office-based analysis, including sampling, data interpretation, report preparation, and project coordination. Responsibilities
- Evaluate geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and provide clear, well-supported analyses.
- Perform groundwater, leachate, stormwater, and landfill gas sampling and testing in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and complete regulatory compliance reports, work plans, and special studies that support environmental monitoring and landfill compliance.
- Conduct data entry and perform statistical analysis to interpret environmental and geologic data accurately.
- Communicate technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, and reports during work team meetings, ensuring conformance with applicable technical standards and internal policies and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with other team members to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary project solutions.
- Coordinate with contractors and clients to plan and execute project tasks efficiently and safely.
- Conduct field inspections and provide construction quality assurance oversight for relevant projects.
- Coordinate with field teams and laboratories to prepare sampling paperwork and bottle orders for upcoming sampling events.
- Provide oversight during the installation of monitoring wells and supervise other field tasks as needed.
- Perform additional project-related duties as required to support successful project delivery.
- Perform physical tasks in the field, including lifting up to 50 pounds, operating in outdoor environments, and handling field equipment.
- Demonstrate and promote a strong 'Safety First' work ethic in all field and office activities.
- Manage projects independently when appropriate, particularly for environmental monitoring and landfill compliance programs.
Essential Skills
- BS or MS in Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- 4-10 years of professional experience in geology, environmental monitoring, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with groundwater sampling and environmental monitoring, particularly in support of landfill compliance.
- Proficiency in report writing, including regulatory compliance reports, work plans, and technical studies.
- Experience in project management, including planning, coordinating, and tracking project tasks and deliverables.
- Strong background in geology and hydrogeology, with the ability to evaluate subsurface conditions and interpret field data.
- Ability to conduct data entry and perform statistical analysis for environmental and geologic datasets.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary projects and collaborate with engineers, scientists, and other professionals.
- Demonstrated 'Safety First' mindset and commitment to safe field and office practices.
- Ability to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varying conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Possession of a Geologist-in-Training (GIT) credential, with flexibility for strong candidates who are actively working toward this credential.
- Experience with environmental monitoring and report writing specifically for landfill compliance programs.
- Ability to manage projects independently, including coordination with contractors, laboratories, and clients.
- Familiarity with civil engineering concepts and their application to geologic and environmental projects.
- Experience coordinating field sampling events, including preparing sampling paperwork and bottle orders.
- Experience overseeing the installation of monitoring wells and supervising field crews.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when handling data, documentation, and regulatory requirements.

Work Environment
The role combines field and office work, with a preference for on-site presence and openness to hybrid arrangements for exceptional candidates. Office-based work involves data entry, statistical analysis, report preparation, and participation in team meetings using standard technical and analytical tools. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Concord, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
