This position is suited to a technically strong engineer who enjoys both hands-on project delivery and client engagement. You will serve as a key technical contributor and emerging leader-supporting project execution, mentoring junior staff, and engaging in business development activities-while building toward more senior responsibility. Key Responsibilities Perform and oversee subsurface investigations, including planning field exploration programs and evaluating geotechnical data Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, including analyses, recommendations, and design considerations Serve as a technical resource for transportation and DOT-related projects Conduct engineering analyses related to foundations, earthwork, slope stability, and ground improvement Provide field support and observation, including construction-phase services and site visits Support project management functions, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control Participate in client meetings, project scoping, and proposal preparation Contribute to business development efforts, including maintaining and expanding client relationships within the Knoxville region Mentor and support junior engineers and field staff, fostering technical growth and team development Collaborate across disciplines to support expansion into additional service lines Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field Approximately 5-10 years of geotechnical consulting experience Strong background in: Subsurface investigations and drilling coordination Laboratory testing and soil/rock classification Engineering analysis and report preparation Construction observation and field services Demonstrated experience working on multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing settings Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) licence, or ability to obtain in the near term Experience with DOT and transportation projects (highly desirable) Familiarity with regional geotechnical conditions in Tennessee and the Southeast Experience mentoring junior staff or leading small project teams Exposure to business development or client relationship management activities What the Organisation Offers Competitive compensation aligned with experience and licensure Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, retirement) Structured support for PE licensure and continuing education Opportunities for technical specialisation or project management career paths A stable, well-capitalised firm with long-term growth strategy The chance to play a meaningful role in the continued success and growth of the Knoxville office Click the link to apply directly to this job posting, or contact me directly at: +...
