As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, you help lead real-world construction and maintenance projects. This position centers on supervising inmate crews and teaching the safe operation of heavy construction equipment. As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will maintain and guide an inmate work crew while providing classroom and hands-on instruction, along with ensuring security and proper work practices. As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Crew Supervision: Lead inmate work crews in construction, excavation, and maintenance tasks
  • Equipment Instruction: Train inmates in safe and correct use of heavy machinery such as backhoes, loaders, and excavators
  • Safety Oversight: Enforce all safety rules, tool procedures, and institutional policies
  • Work Coordination: Plan, assign, and review work while monitoring progress and quality
  • Equipment Care: Perform and teach basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Documentation Duties: Complete inmate instruction records, evaluations, time records, and payroll forms

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the operation of heavy equipment; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which includes one year of journeyman level work.
Special Requirement:
  • You must be in p ossession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
