Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant so that all treated water quality meets the State and Federal discharge permit requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operate and maintain plant equipment and plant processes at two wastewater treatment plants.
Perform physical/chemical analysis to monitor and adjust plant processes accordingly.
Interpret lab analysis on collected samples.
Monitor charts, meters, recorders, and equipment and adjust accordingly.
Report equipment malfunctions and irregularities in operations.
Record and evaluate plant operations, logs, and charts.
Inspect/clean/repair pumps, motors, aerators, digesters, clarifiers, lift stations, and other equipment.
Operate plant equipment and treatment processes.
Work requires being on-site.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Comprehend technical manuals and construction plans.
Operate a personal computer. / Order parts, supplies, etc.
Communicate with staff and the public.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Possess knowledge of mechanical principles and troubleshoot electrical failures.
Possess the skill to troubleshoot plant processes and act accordingly.
Possess knowledge of the principles of safety involving the use of power tools, electrical equipment, and hazardous materials.
Possess the ability to operate power equipment/tools.
You must have good speech, eyesight, hearing, balance, finger movement, and the ability to grasp objects.
Must be able to stand, walk, and climb up to 8 hours daily; bend and stoop 6-8 hours daily; sit, crawl, and kneel; twist and turn up to 1 hour daily; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; frequently push and pull up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at heights.
Must be able to work any shift assigned, including days, evenings, nights, swings, rotating, on-call/as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License with a clear driving record. Must currently have a valid Class "C" Wastewater License as issued by TCEQ.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
