As a Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG) Inspector, you will be an integral member of a collaborative team dedicated to ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential wastewater services. Based in Waterbury, Connecticut, this role involves performing a range of duties in support of the Industrial Pretreatment and FOG Programs. Responsibilities include scheduling and conducting field inspections of Waterbury Food Service Establishments (FSEs), as well as commercial and industrial facilities, to verify compliance with pretreatment requirements. These efforts are critical to protecting the integrity of the wastewater collection system, treatment facilities, and the surrounding environment. Principal Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with CT DEEP General Permit for the Discharge of Fats, Oils, and Grease and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Conducting routine and follow-up inspections of grease traps, interceptors, and discharge systems at class 3 and class 4 FSEs (approximately 350 establishments) and other regulated facilities. Reviewing and verifying maintenance records, cleaning schedules, and disposal manifests to ensure regulatory compliance. Educating business owners and staff on proper FOG handling and disposal practices. Investigation of complaints and potential violations related to FOG discharge. Preparing formal notices of violation and recommending corrective actions when necessary. Maintaining accurate inspection logs, reports, and compliance documentation. Electronic data entry and record maintenance within FOG systems (CityView and Nobel) Collaborating with the Health Department and Engineering staff to coordinate enforcement. Assisting in the developing and revision of program materials, outreach campaigns, and regulatory guidelines. Serving as a liaison between the City, food service establishments, and regulatory agencies to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and aligned with program goals. Supporting Capacity, Maintenance, Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) program and initiatives. Conduct inspections of commercial and industrial facilities to ensure compliance with wastewater pretreatment regulations and discharge permits. OMFS #BIA #OurJacobs #BoldlyMovingForward #ChallengeAccepted LI-JA2 Experience in utility field work or a closely related field, such as food service operations, plumbing, municipal pretreatment programs, or industrial or municipal wastewater treatment processes. Possession of a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle for fieldwork. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to manage and input data accurately. Ideally, you'll also have: Prior experience in a municipal pretreatment or FOG compliance program, including inspection, enforcement, and reporting activities. Knowledge of Pretreatment Program regulation and familiarity with CT DEEP requirements and CMOM programs.
