POSITION SUMMARY: (Include degree of Supervision)
Under direction of Park Foreperson this person performs grounds maintenance duties on all park property located within the City of Amarillo. Maintenance tasks include operating grounds care equipment, irrigation repairs, planting trees & flowers, seeding & sodding projects, light construction duties, cleans restrooms, picnic areas, play courts, and other park facilities. This position works a 40 hour week weather permitting (Monday thru Friday) with an occasional weekend work if necessary.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Please number)
Assists employees with turf maintenance, park facility maintenance, and ballfield preparations.
Runs trim mowers, weedeaters, edgers, backpack blowers, small tractors, line markers, hedge trimmers, and miscellaneous hand tools.
Cleans park restrooms, play courts, stages, wading pools, shore lines, decorative fountains, complexes, undeveloped areas, park facilities, empties trash cans and any other manual labor type jobs deemed necessary by the department.
Assists employees with minor tree pruning, hedge pruning, and brush removal, helps load and unload trees on trailers.
Dig holes, cleans ditches for irrigation repair and installation, shovels dirt, hoes weeds, digs tree holes, set out manual sprinklers, and lays sod.
Assists with concrete work, fabrication work, turf renovations, painting, carpentry, equipment repairs, irrigating and irrigation installation and repair, and other landscape and construction related job tasks.
Weeds and cleans flower beds and rock islands.
Cleans walks and pens at zoo.
On some occasions must keep daily cost sheets and task sheets.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS USED:
Operates small riding mowers, line markers, weedeaters, edgers, back pack blowers, and all types of grounds maintenance equipment, small trucks and small tractors. Uses basic hand tools for equipment repairs and facility repairs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be capable of performing manual labor on a daily basis and for extended periods of time. Must lift heavy objects, and work outside in inclement weather. Requires considerable amount of walking, bending, squatting, etc.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Ability to read and write, having some prior knowledge of grounds care and construction related work is desirable. Valid Texas driver's license preferred but not required.
