Job Summary

Maintains the Department's buildings, property, and grounds. Performs construction and maintenance work by means of carpentry, plumbing, masonry work, concrete finishing, and excavating. Builds utility buildings, foundations, concrete pads, and driveways. Paints metal whiteway poles, arms, and fixtures. Makes repairs to customers' property damaged by Department personnel. Performs various traffic control duties by properly directing traffic in or around work zones to protect employees and property. Fills in for Foreman when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Supervision Required

  • Does carpentry, masonry work, painting, plumbing, landscaping. fencing, etc.
  • Performs non-electrical construction of substations.
  • Construct new buildings and remodel existing facilities.
  • Maintains grounds at Warehouse Complex and approximately 45 substation sites.
  • Cuts pavement, sidewalks, curbs, and other concrete necessary to install power poles and underground electrical services.
  • Erects cyclone fencing for substation sites and other properties.
  • Does excavation and backfill work.
  • Prepares and paints buildings and equipment owned and maintained by the Department.
  • Moves office furniture, records, and equipment.
  • Maintains pole yard skids and racks.
  • Discards unusable poles, scrap material, and obsolete records.
  • Repairs customers' property damaged by Department personnel.
  • Maintains traffic control in all assigned work zones.
  • Fills in for foreman when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Training, & License

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Two years of experience or training in related work preferred.
  • Valid Unrestricted Commercial Class "A" Drivers' License or must obtain CDL within six (6) months of employment. Other endorsements as required.

Required Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Ability to read work orders and service orders.
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry, concrete finishing, painting, and plumbing.
  • Ability to operate an air compressor, jackhammer, paint sprayer, table saw, arm saw, router saw, skill saw, miter saw, transit, band saw, lathe, and other job-related equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate a backhoe, dump or winch truck, forklift, bucket truck, derrick truck, and tractor.
  • Knowledge and ability to erect metal utility buildings and fencing.
  • Ability to carry out job assignments to completion.
  • Ability to maintain good public and employee relations and respect private property.
  • General knowledge of the Department's service area.
  • Ability to safely maintain traffic control in all assigned work zones

PHYSICAL DEMANDS *WITH OR WITHOUT ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at different heights.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles and operate equipment.
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED

Backhoe; dump truck; winch truck; bucket truck; derrick truck; tractor; forklift; air compressor; jack hammer; paint sprayer; table, arm, router, skill, miter, transit and band saws; lathe; two-way radio.
