Lead Library Utility Worker Rutgers University

Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Lead Library Utility Worker for Rutgers University Libraries (RUL). Reporting to the Coordinator of Shipping & Receiving in the Administration and Technology Unit of Rutgers University Libraries (RUL), the Lead Library Utility Worker ensures the efficient and effective operation of logistics and materials handling across the academic library system.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

• Oversees and completes the daily delivery and processing of library materials between multiple campus library locations, supervises student assistants.
• Coordinates the flow of interlibrary loan (ILL) materials, packages, and mail between RUL and shipping partners.
• Assists in the maintenance of essential tracking systems using UPS Worldship and internal databases, while supporting library access and technical services functions with accuracy and dependability.
• Makes daily usage of multiple computer systems for communication, scheduling, processing, and the archival of department records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• High school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in a library, mailroom, or logistics role; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Equipment Utilized:

• University issued cargo van, hand trucks, platform trucks, book trucks, and dollies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Must pass university defensive driving course and drive library owned cargo van.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks such as pushing carts, loading bins, and operating hand trucks.
• Must be able to perform duties outside in all weather conditions.

Special Conditions:

• Some early morning, evening, or weekend work may be required depending on library schedules.
• Clean Driving Record.
