Electrical Technician I

Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational course work in electricity or related areas, and 1 to 2 years of experience in electrical repair work, preferably including work with water and wastewater plants and pumping station equipment. Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License and have an acceptable driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record. Code 2: Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employees Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work. Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of electrical instruments and equipment at the City water and wastewater plants and pump stations. Work involves inspecting for and repairing malfunctions, and identifying causes of malfunctions or breakdowns. Employee is also responsible for maintaining records of maintenance work performed. Reports to the assigned supervisor. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Inspects equipment for malfunctions, maintenance needs, and breakage, and performs necessary maintenance and/or repairs; diagnoses problems and causes of equipment failures.
Diagnoses problems and repairs malfunctioning equipment at the water and wastewater treatment plants; maintains electrical systems at pump stations, performing routine maintenance as scheduled and repairs as necessary; maintains telemetry equipment.
Prepares and maintains logs and records of maintenance and repair work performed, submitting and/or filing such documents as requested or otherwise appropriate.
May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to respond to after hour calls. Will be required to go on call.
