Requirement Description:
Technician in Training - Wastewater Collections
Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or General education degree (GED)
Possess a valid drivers license- State of New Mexico
Digital literacy (i.e. Microsoft office, phones, tablets, computers)
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, machinery, pumps, and equipment used within the water and wastewater systems.
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles, structures, and buildings.
General maintenance work; safe work practices; basic biological and chemical principles
Ability to obtain the collections or wastewater level I certification within 2-years
Responsibilities:
Performs several tasks that involve the inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collections systems. This includes sewer lines, manholes, lift stations, and related infrastructure. The position also requires knowledge of wastewater systems, safe work practices and specialized equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preforms routine service and corrective maintenance of wastewater collection systems.
Inspect, clean, and maintain sewer mains, laterals, manhole and lift stations.
Cleans vehicles, heavy equipment, pumps, tools, and other stationary and portable equipment.
Preforms routine inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Performs minor maintenance and lubrication of machinery, such as oil changes and greasing equipment.
Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment, and tools that are required to load, unload, haul and spread sand, gravel, dirt and/or waste products (i.e., sludge, product waste, packaging waste, etc.)
Assist with materials, supplies, and tools to assist collections personnel.
Maintains grounds, buildings, and lift stations; cuts grass, weeds and brush; trims trees and bushes; rakes grass, leaves, and trash
Complete work orders as requested (i.e., Maintenance Connection, field maps, vision view)
Monitors and records meter, control panels and gauge readings
Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
Performs routine maintenance and custodial duties.
Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the workday.
Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow.
Ability to carry and respond to work orders as requested by management.
Ability to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner (i.e. after hours, business hours and holidays)
Understands and carries out oral and written directions from management.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during work.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in those areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine-motor coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to service equipment, and have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift, must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, push a push-type mower, and wear/use appropriate safety equipment.
