Control Specialist Jobs in New Jersey

A Control Specialist in the utilities industry is responsible for monitoring and controlling utility systems, such as power or water distribution, to ensure efficient and safe operations. They are tasked with managing system operations, coordinating equipment maintenance, troubleshooting system problems, and developing strategies to improve system performance. They also play a crucial role in emergency situations, where they must quickly analyze and respond to system failures to minimize the impact on utility services. They need to have an excellent understanding of utility systems and operations, as well as regulatory standards and safety protocols associated with the industry.

A Control Specialist should have strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Good communication skills are also essential, as they need to effectively work with other team members and communicate system status and issues. They should also be highly detail-oriented and able to work under pressure. Relevant certifications include Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Utility Professional (CUP). Additionally, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a similar field, is often required. Prior to becoming a Control Specialist, an individual might have roles such as Utility Engineer, System Operator, or Maintenance Technician where they gain the necessary knowledge and experience in the operations and maintenance of utility systems.
