Safety Specialist Jobs in Washington
A Safety Specialist in the utilities industry plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of all operations within a utility company. They are responsible for developing and implementing safety programs, conducting safety audits and inspections, identifying hazards, and ensuring the company follows all local, state, and federal safety regulations. These professionals also provide safety training to employees, investigate accidents and incidents, prepare safety reports, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
A Safety Specialist needs to have excellent knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to identify safety hazards in various settings. They should also possess strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. Relevant certifications such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) can be beneficial. Prior to becoming a Safety Specialist, a person may have roles such as Safety Coordinator, Safety Officer, or Safety Inspector, which provide essential experience in safety procedures and regulations.
