Environmental Specialist Jobs
An Environmental Specialist in the utilities industry is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with environmental regulations. They monitor and manage environmental impact, perform assessments and audits, and devise strategies to minimize pollution and waste. They also work on projects related to water quality, soil contamination, air quality, and hazardous materials management. Environmental Specialists aim to reduce the company's carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.
Important skills for an Environmental Specialist include strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and a thorough understanding of environmental regulations. Communication skills are also vital, as they often have to liaise with government agencies, customers, or other stakeholders. They should be certified as an Environmental Professional (EP) or have a similar certification, and a degree in environmental science or related field is usually required. Before becoming an Environmental Specialist, a person might work as an Environmental Technician, a Sustainability Consultant, or an Environmental Analyst.
